Global Outreach Opportunity:

God has presented Redeemer with yet another wonderful opportunity to be active in the glorious, worldwide spectrum of Gospel proclamation to the ends of the earth.

Mathias and Huifang Wu have worshipped at Redeemer and attended Bible study several times in the past. They have also developed a relationship with our Redeemer people, involved in our ongoing Thursday morning outreach to internationals. Mathias has a deeply heartfelt testimony about how God found him in Communist China, and brought him to saving faith in Jesus. As a growing and maturing Christian, Mathias has had significant theological training that has prepared him well, to start a local house church, spoken in Chinese. Huifang is a wonderful Christian woman who is lovingly supportive of her husband and actively involved in their ministry together. Their children, Annie and Elijah, are being brought up in this Christian home to believe in Jesus Christ with all their heart, mind, soul and strength. They have been using their home to not only nurture their children in the one true faith in Jesus, but to also share and teach many other families and individuals from China in the faith. However, at this time their home will not allow for more people to come. They are growing, or should I say, outgrowing their space. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Thus, Pastor Townsend, Paris Assistant Debbie Townsend, and myself met with Mathias and Huifang on Thursday, August 4th at Redeemer. As representatives of Redeemer, we as Pastoral Staff, were asked to prayerfully consider allowing this small, fledgling Chinese church to use Redeemer facilities at a time that might be convenient for them without interfering with Redeemer’s ministry.

Before we could address the possibility of recommending this to you as voters, it was the responsibility of Joe and I to become comfortable with the theological training, background, preaching and teaching of Pastor Mathias. After interviewing Mathias, Joe and I were pleased and privileged to highly commend him for his Christ centered Biblical worldview, his clear Gospel proclamation, and his clear understanding of the Holy Scriptures, including the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.

With first things having been considered first, we returned to the question of using our facility. After discussing alternatives, we zeroed in on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. This time would include: worship, bible study and meal fellowship time. All of this would take place in the Fellowship Hall. The meal would be a carry in meal with no need to use our kitchen or supplies. All clean-up will be done by them and with complete willingness to respond to any specific directions by Redeemer.

On Sunday, August 7th, Joe and I met with the Board of Elders to discuss our Pastoral endorsement of this recommendation. Pastor Mathias was in attendance. The Elders approved this recommendation and will discuss it with the church council on August 21st. A special voter’s meeting will be held immediately after worship on Sunday, August 28th, to present this mission to the Redeemer Congregation. If approved, it is understood that there will need to be an ongoing flow of communication and liaison with this growing number of brothers and sisters of Christ in our midst. As Director of the Board of Evangelism, our Board will readily accept this liaison as one of our specific responsibilities. Huifang will also work closely with Debbie Townsend in assisting the Thursday morning International Playgroup and Women’s Bible Study that meets at Redeemer throughout the school year.

We give thanks to God for this wonderful opportunity to reach more and more people with the Good News of Jesus. We pray that God would richly bless our outreach efforts.

Pastor Townsend, Pastor Morrow, Parish Assistant Debbie Townsend, The Board of Elders, and the Church Council of Redeemer.

Conclusion: Thanks to all of you for your input, energies and efforts as we move through the decision making process. Love in Christ, Ed.

Symbis: Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts

This is the latest tool for marriage preparation by Drs. Les & Leslie Parrot. It includes an online assessment filled out separately by the couple, which is then used for sessions of pre-marital counseling. Pastor Townsend is a certified faciliator and has been using this for marriage preparation. It includes a book by the same title, separate workbooks for husband and wife, and a DVD of the group sessions conducted by the authors.

Pastor Townsend is making this available to married couples of Redeemer, for marriage enrichment. Each couple would complete the assessment and then meet together for 6 weeks (one evening per week) this fall.

The cost for all materials is $75 a couple (help can be provided with this). Please sign up downstairs if you are interested in this journey to a stronger marriage. We need lead time to order materials and complete assessments, so sign up soon if you are interested.

Krop for Kyron:

Aimee Griggs and I are hosting the third annual Krop for Kyron to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). We sincerely appreciate the support our church family gave us last year. It was such a success, we had to find a larger venue for this years scrapbook/craft weekend.

The Krop will be August 19th and 20th at the Otterbein Methodist Church. The cost for two days is $50.00, which includes your own 8' table to craft on, two meals on Friday, three on Saturday and goody bags.

Once again, we will have Kelly Nufer of Nufer Designs there with her scrapbook store, and her creative makes and takes. Jolie McCartney will have her wonderful Thirty-One bags there for sale.

We are again asking for donations from area businesses to cover the costs of the krop, so that all the proceeds can go directly to JDRF. Last year, we raised nearly $2000 and would really like to increase that amount this year.

There are several ways you can support the cause. We ask for prayers for a successful event. For the next several weeks, there will be a donation box in the church narthex (please make checks payable to Aimee Griggs). All donations are tax deductible. We are also looking for corporate sponsorship.

If you would like more information on this, please talk to Aimee or I. Thank you for supporting our event. - Vickie Schlene (765) 497-0383
